A weekend at Lee Farm

Last weekend we took a trip up to Connecticut to stay at my grandparents home. I spent my early years there and enjoyed sharing some of my favorite places with everyone. Laura drove up to New York with us, where we picked up Dave, and then we all drove to Danbury.

The house looks like it always does. The stone duck with its every changing rock for a head, St. Francis in the garden, the bell at the kitchen door. Jack and Henry loved exploring the house and the surrounding outdoors.



When we got there, since we knew rain was coming, we all jumped into the pool. Jack loves the water. Now that he has finished three swim sessions, he feels very comfortable swimming around and is doing really well. Henry like playing with the little sailboat on the pool steps.




We then had dinner at Sesame Seed. This is a place I use to go with my mom and grandma. The food is so good. They are famous for their pita and hummus. It seemed to be exactly the same and the food was as good as I remembered!


The next morning we took at trip to Stew Leonards. Stew's is the greatest grocery store ever...even almost better than Wegmans! It has so many fun attractions for the kids. They have Chiquita Banana, Twinkie the kid, the cow that moos, and a whole band that sings songs made out of dairy and egg products. The kids ran around pushing buttons to make the characters pop up and start singing. They loved it! They also have a petting zoo out front, but we didn't stop since it was a rainy day.




We then headed over to visit Dad's grave site, along with my grandparents, great grandparents, uncle, and cousin. It was nice occasion to be able to show Jack and Henry and explain to them some of our family heritage.



On the way home, we we watched guys bailing hay around Lee Farm.




We had a nice lunch at home and then went to Dr. Mike's with Aunt Babs. Dr. Mike's is a great ice cream place that serves chocolate lace ice cream. I think they are the only place that sells this kind. It is creamy and yummy and brought back so many happy memories of trips to Dr. Mike's as a kid.


Later that evening, we had a cookout with Aunt Margot. It was great to sit around and chat. Laura made an amazing chocolate mousse that we all enjoy.

It was a very nostalgic weekend for all of us. We had a great time with each other and enjoyed sharing Lee Farm with our boys.
