4th of July 2011

We love the 4th around here. There are so many fun traditions that we have for this special day. This year my sister Laura spent the day with us. We decided to go fishing in the morning. I think this may be our new tradition. We had a picnic breakfast down by the lake with red, white, and blue pancakes and some scrambled eggs. They boys loved fishing. Each one caught a good size sunfish. It was a great way to start the day.

Jack decorated a special blue bucket for himself this year. This bucket is his candy bucket. The parades in Purcellville not only celebrate a special holiday, but signal to our boys a day of candy! Jack had a hard time waiting until noon when the parade would start. We made some homemade ice cream. This years flavor was strawberry. Then it was off to the parade. We had a great spot and the boys LOVED collecting their candy. Henry really loved seeing all the fire trucks! This year they had a small cannon that they actually set off. It was great fun!

We had our annual BBQ and family fireworks show. Komo Keyyong and Uncle Keyhan joined us for some good food and fun fireworks. We had to set them off a little early as a storm was rolling in. We were a bit worried that the big show at Franklin Park might be canceled, but the storm passed over quickly and was clear by the time the big showed started. We has some neighbors that were also giving us a great display. It was a great 4th and we loved being able to celebrate it with our family!
