Summer of the Cicada Killers

We have had some guests with us all summer. They don't seem to be getting the message that their visit has been way too long. Our whole front yard is covered with their mounds. We have tried wasp and hornet spray (twice...it only seemed to make them more mutant), gasoline (thought for sure that would do it), and moth balls. All methods have failed. They don't sting (or at least only the queens do, male workers can't) so that is sort of a relief. But they are just so big and make it a bit uncomfortable when trying to water the plants in the front yard. We have gotten kind of use to our little colony, sad to say. According to some website, they only stay around for a month or so then move on. We must have some juicy cicadas in our area, because I don't see them leaving anytime soon. Kris says we should "just enjoy nature!"
